International Travel Trade Show (ITB) 2012
This year GATE was again allowed to face the challenge of providing more than 80 exhibition stands from all over the world with video, IT and sound equipment. And a dozen press conferences had to be set up and maintained at the same time.
For the world's largest trade show of the tourist industry, the materials and personnel logistics naturally present a special challenge. Thanks to our long standing experience however, our 20-strong team was successful in supplying all international exhibitors on time and despite immense deadline pressure.
Between October 13 and October 16, 2011 we were allowed to provide the complete media equipment for this international congress. The organizers have once more trusted the reliability and the competence of our service team. And deservedly so, as we have been assured by our highly satisfied customer after the conclusion of the conference.
Among other things, the "all-round carefree package" included:
- complex data directing in the main hall,
- three full-HD projections and seamless display columns as a delay for the parallel presentation of the three conference languages,
- a high-quality, de-centralized public address system for speeches,
- the media facilities for several adjoining rooms including sound, projection and IT equipment,
- and of course the planning, the realization with manpower and the support service for the complete conference,
- along the way we even designed the forms for the voting system we have planned and realized (InteractiveVotingSystem).
Awarding ceremony for the 2011 ECR Award at the German Historical Museum
The TSE AG has commissioned us with the implementation of the projection equipment, the camera transmission and the Watchout media equipment for the awarding ceremony of the ECR Award on 20 September 2011 in the atrium of the German Historical Museum.
For the projection of the complete stage background in the historic atrium we used two Barco high-performance projectors (40,000 ANSI lumen) in a tandem configuration.
The complete playback technology was realized in full-HD using, among others, Sony HD camera production units and a HD-capable Watchout system.
50th Anniversary of the Erection of the Berlin Wall on August 13, 2011
For a commemoration ceremony of the Berlin Wall Museum – Checkpoint Charlie Museum, the Friedrichstrasse was closed for road traffic on this historic date.
This left ample space to position - in the middle of the street and right where the division of the world began and where it ended - a large, 50 sqm LED wall which was deployed out of a video truck in the early hours of the morning already. After quickly assembling the stage, the seats for the audience and the barriers and putting 20 hostesses and security guards in position, all the sound and video equipment could be routed and connected.
Our camera teams have captured the events in the Berlin Wall Museum and also on the stage and our live video directing took care of a perfect transmission of the images to the giant LED wall. The sound directing transmitted the signals to the numerous speakers and curious tourists and Berliners could thus witness the commemoration ceremony even from behind the barriers.
Even though GATE had additionally installed all the video, audio and lighting equipment in a specially prepared hall in the Zimmerstrasse as an alternative in case of rain, everybody was probably glad that, thanks to the beautiful weather, the commemoration of the victims of the Berlin Wall could take place in the open on the historic ground of Checkpoint Charlie.
Performance of the "physikanten" for the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung at the Romain-Rolland Secondary School
On July 22, 2011, the Deutsche Telekom Stiftung invited the students of the Romain-Rolland school in Reinickendorf to two shows of the "physikanten & co" science show.
GATE turned the gym of the school into a theater hall with 500 seats.
A diesel generator was placed in front of the gym to satisfy the considerable power requirements of the sound and lighting equipment. On the stage, which was especially constructed for this purpose, we have elaborately presented the experiments of the "physikanten" in the proper light using numerous lighting effects.
As a full service provider, GATE has additionally established the concept for the escape and rescue routes, including the paramedics, stewards and firemen. Students and teachers could thus enjoy the show in a relaxed, carefree and, above all, safe manner.
125 Years of Dr. Kade Pharma
For the 125th anniversary celebration of the renowned Berlin company Dr. Kade Pharma on 17 June 2011, Gate was tasked with the implementation of the complete lighting, video and sound technology.
The celebrations took place in the atrium of the Martin-Gropius building, an extremely challenging location we are well acquainted with from many events.
In cooperation with the Lichtwerk Company, Gate elaborately illuminated the atrium and skillfully presented it in the proper light in order to create an ambience that lives up to the expectations of our client and does justice to the location and the gala.
The highlight of the evening was a performance by the famous pianist Jojo Wendt. The virtuosic show was captured by GATE with the help of fixed and mobile cameras and projected onto two screens on both sides of the stage.
It was possible to invisibly accommodate the elaborate data directing facilities, from which high-resolution, digital signals could be transmitted, on the gallery of the atrium without visually disturbing the elegant ambience of the gala dinner. Our clients and their guests were thus able to enjoy the grand gala to the fullest.
Meetings of the representatives of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZBV)
After two meetings of the representatives have already been successfully carried out in the last years at the Hotel Hilton in Frankfurt and at the Schweizer Hof in Berlin, the KZBV again trusted us in March 2011 with the technical and decorative realization at the Hotel Intercontinental in Berlin.
For the projection of the PowerPoint presentations of the management board, three screens were embedded into a decorative wall on the stage. The projections were realized with the latest generation of Full-HD projectors. We have also used extensive lighting equipment to elaborately present the room in the proper light.
The members of the board on the stage were seated at media desks which we had specially designed and specifically and expensively made and which, among other things, featured integrated preview displays.
The events on the stage were transmitted to the room and to the adjoining election area with the help of three-camera live directing.
Again, we can be proud to have actively contributed to the success of a successful event.
BDI Festive Evening of the German Industry
For the Festive Evening of the BDI on the 25th of January 2011 in the Martin-Gropius-Bau, we realised the light and sound technology. We were able to adapt the virtuosic performance of violinist Sinn Yang perfectly to the acoustically challenging atrium of the MGB. In addition, we staged the speeches of Federal President Christian Wulff and the BDI President Hans-Peter Keitel as well as the lyrical and musical performances of the ensemble "Fön" with great public appeal.
ADAC Ball 2011
On the 22nd of January 2011 we had the pleasure for the 6th time to provide the video technology for the annual ADAC Ball at the Maritim Hotel Berlin.
Using four HD projectors and double data and video direction, we staged a spectacular appearance for the special guest Peter Kraus and other discerning show and talk acts on the grand show stage of the "Hall Maritim" and of the Club Salon Berlin. The host, Walter Müller, opened the ball with his wife and Nazan Eckes guided the guests through the evening that led the celebrities from the worlds of politics, industry, media, sports and culture to celebrate into the early hours.
GATE hosts World Health Summit in the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus
Following last year's success, this year's WHO World Health Summit took place for the second time in the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus beside the Charité from October 10th-13th, 2010. More than 700 leading international scientists participated in the event, which took place under the aegis of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
The ambitious audio visual production was realised by GATE Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH and included video and data management, camera, projection, light and sound technology as well as the provision of several premix signals for two live streams. As during last year's conference, this year the main direction had to be accommodated once again in an air-conditioned tent in the courtyard of the grounds.
Frida Kahlo exhibition
On 03 May, 2010 the Mexican President Felipe Calderón spoke on the occasion of the opening of the "Frida Kahlo" exhibition in the vestibule of the Martin-Gropius Building in Berlin.
We provided the sound system for the event.
A particular challenge was the complicated acoustics of the room with a long reverberation time.
We again decided to use active GL 16 Line Array systems, made by the Seeburg Company, which ensure excellent intelligibility of speech even under acoustic conditions like this.
DFB action day
This year too, GATE has again supported the DFB in their action day "1,000 little soccer fields" at an elementary school in Berlin Tegel.
This was not only about an athletic challenge, but the focus of the event was mainly on teamwork, interpersonal skills and on its integrative character.
Among others, Dr. Theo Zwanziger and the Federal Minister of Family Affairs, Dr. Kristina Schröder were present this year.

The "Aktion Mensch BIENE" Award
On December 4th, 2009, the Aktion Mensch association presented the BIENE award in Berlin's Postbahnhof railway station. The award recognizes the commitment of homepage operators who make their contents particularly accessible for handicapped persons.
We have presented the different infeeds, which, among other things, included extracts from the homepages, in pin sharp full HD quality on a large-size screen.
Christmas Punch in the Crematorium
A very special "location" had to be put on stage on December 4th, 2009. On this day, the decommissioned crematorium in the Gerichtsstrasse in Berlin Wedding was offered for sale and presented to potential buyers. Besides providing projection and audio equipment for the presentation of the building by an architect, we also staged an atmospheric illumination of the area, which made the almost 100-year-old building appear in a completely new light. At this, the requirement for the illumination was to emphasize the charm of the building without ignoring its history and at the same time create a comfortable atmosphere for the subsequent get-together.
"World Health Summit" at the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus
From October 14th-18th, 2009, the first World Health Summit of the WHO titled "The Evolution of Medicine" was held under the auspices of French President Sarkozy and Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus in Berlin, next to the hospital Charité.
For this conference too, GATE has provided the video, audio, lighting and other equipment. A particular challenge was the placement of the main direction in an air conditioned tent in the courtyard of the building, as it could not be accommodated in the auditorium for spatial and acoustic reasons.
Among others, fiber-optic systems for video and data signals and an Aviom audio transmission system via network cable were used for the signal transmission between the direction and the auditorium.
A special highlight was the live connection with the international space station ISS, for which a satellite broadcast truck (SNG) was specifically provided.
"The Miracle of Leipzig"
On September 22nd 2009 ARTE and MDR broadcasted the TV-production "The Miracle of Leipzig" by the numerous honoured directors Sebastian Dehnhardt and Matthias Schmidt in the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig. In an almost 90-minute documentary film, mainly with re-shot scenes from films, the events of the Montagsdemonstrationen of 20 years ago can be seen close up and in true color! By using our Panasonic PT-DW10.000 Full-HD projectors on a more than 4m wide Stumpfl rear projection screen, we created a razor sharp picture, which captivated the audience with its detail up until the last minute.
Thanks to Seeburg GL16 Acoustic Line speakers, we could create an audio clarity that was heard in the last row of a church which, for acoustic reasons, always presents a challenge.
A big event on historical ground!
As part of the theme "The wall between us - cinema in the death strip", the Berlin Wall Documentation Center worked together with Ms. Iris Lanz on August 14th and 15th 2009 to organize two Open Air Cinema Events. GATE was responsible for the entire technical implementation of the project (projection, sound, stage and lighting). To show the film we used a 4.88m x 3.66m Inflatable Open Air Movie Screen, which was inflated on-site and anchored with water tanks. A 15.000 ANSI-Lumen LCD Projector created a brilliant picture and a line array filled the event area with sound, at a "neighborly" level well into the night.
We are really grateful to have been able to take part in the great success of this historical event.

NEW in the POOL OF EQUIPMENT FOR RENT: Analog Way DiVentiX II
Since a few days and as one of the first users in Germany, we now have the Analog Way DiVentiX II in our rental program. Four of their eight inputs can also be used as DVI or SDI/HD-SDI inputs. The devices feature an integrated Soft-Edge option, and provide the option to process 4 live layers (!!!) plus logo and frame processing!
Cascading of multiple devices also allows multiple circuit directing or Soft-Edges across multiple projectors. Two circuit directing can even be realized with just one device, at which the number of PIPs per level is reduced to 2.
In combination with our Analog Way Axion Controller, which is also new in our program, even complex shows can be easily pre-programmed and realized now. Thus, the Analog Way DiVentiX II with its new features makes applications possible, which could, until now, only be realized with considerably more expensive and complex systems and it is the absolute market leader in its segment when it comes to range of functions.
Do you like to know which advantages this holds for you? Ask us, we will gladly provide advice!

Topping-out ceremony „Topography of Terror“
On May 5th 2009, the foundation „Topography of Terror“ finally could celebrate the long expected topping-out ceremony for the new documentation centre at the memorial area at Wilhelmstraße in Berlin.
GATE was responsible for the acoustic irradiation, the stage, press platforms and the suspension device to place a 6x3m large-scale print. We wish the foundation good success and that the building will soon be accomplished.
„DUFTSTARS“ The German award for the best perfumes 2009
GATE was the 4th time assigned to realise the video projection of the annual award ceremony of the winner 2009 of the Fragrance Foundation. For the show – which was presented by the German top presenter Kai Pflaume and supported by musical highlights as the German vocalist Roger Cicero – we implemented in collaboration with the company Audio & Frames (www.audio-frames.de) a soft-edge projection with 4 projectors. We directed as well digital Sony SDI cameras and arranged the perfect live coverage into the other rooms. Finally we realised again a great visual show.
International Human Rights Prize 2008 – GATE is Full Service Provider at the Mauermuseum near Checkpoint Charlie
800 guests were invited to be present at the award ceremony for the International Human Rights Prize at the Mauermuseum near Checkpoint Charlie. A modern events tent in the inner courtyard integrated the rooms of the Mauermuseum into a connected event area.
Project Manager Daniel Voigt: "The entire event planning was in our hands: the interior furnishing and the decoration of the tents with chairs, bar tables, carpets, plants, ambient lighting and heating, catering, hostess service for the guests at the reception, checkroom and placement as well as trained security personnel. With regard to technical equipment, we have planed and realized video and sound transmission, lighting, simultaneous translation and camera recording."
Since 2005, the International Human Rights Prize "Dr. Rainer-Hildebrandt-Medal" has annually been awarded on the Human Rights Day to individuals who have nonviolently campaigned for human rights.
Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in the Tempodrom
The best players from all over the world came for the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in Berlin.
We projected the broadcast of the finals from the stage onto a cube made of silver screen, which was suspended from the ceiling. Effects and so called "picture-in-picture" animations were shown on the projection cube, placing several camera images on an animated background.
More than 2000 spectators watched the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in the large Tempodrom arena.
BARACK OBAMA IN BERLIN - GATE GIVES THE SIGNAL
More than 200,000 spectators waited on the fan mile in front of the Victory Column to see the American presidential candidate Barack Obama live.
Our task was the wiring of the signals and feeding them to the huge LED screens, which were installed at distances of 180 and 250 meters from the stage. As the sound from the stage speakers travels only at 330 meters per second, it takes more than a second to reach the last screen. As a result, the images on the screen appeared earlier than the sound was heard - sound and image were not synchronized. For this reason we delayed the images using a special "Video Delay?, in order to lip sync the images to the sound.
The importance of his public appearance is tremendous, as the Berlin speech is the only speech Obama held during his one-week tour through the Middle East and European capitals.
Sound between the Steles at the Holocaust Memorial
To mark the third anniversary, the Kammersymphonie Berlin performed the world premiere of the sound installation ?Before Silence Falls"
at the place of stillness.
From the center of the stele field, the conductor Lothar Zagrosek coordinated the 23 musicians through an optical and acoustical system within a radius of 50 meters.
At the positions where the musicians were not in the visual axis of the conductor, we installed monitors that displayed the camera image of the conductor via a wide cable network.
During the performance, around 2,000 visitors were wandering freely in the memorial.

Roll it: Quelle Innovationsstiftung awards prizes to inventors
For the second year in a row, we conducted the annual Award Ceremony for the Quelle Innovationsstiftung on April 16, 2008; this year held at Kalkscheune Berlin. Sabine Christiansen moderated the Award Ceremony.
We undertook project management and supplied projection, camera and director technology. The projection on two 16:9 screens was carried out on the additional condition that the recorded camera signals may be cut to a broadcast-ready TV feature after the ceremony.
The challenge in the process was to turn the Kalkscheune - despite its low ceiling and numerous columns - into a "television studio" to effect record under studio-like conditions, as far as possible. With our new Sony D50 Triax cameras and the new Sanyo XP100 projectors, we fulfilled the high demands of our client.
Beam up to vacation with GATE - at the ITB
The countdown for the opening has begun. From a logistics point of view, the ITB, being the world's largest travel trade show, is a challenge for all organizers, exhibitors and suppliers.
As service suppliers, we have scarcely 48 hours to go before the start of the show to install - together with the IT and audio technology - about hundred plasma displays at the stands. Time is short, the clients have high demands and communication with exhibitors from all over the world is not always easy. But since our experienced tradeshow team is staffed internationally this year (English, Spanish, French, Turkish), having additional support by a Greek and and an Israeli colleague, everything runs quick and smooth. 5 DAYS, 137 EXHIBITORS, A FULL SUCCESS!
The teamwork of GATE - technicians at the Fruit Logistica
And once again, we will be fortunate to have our Federal Minister Horst Seehofer take the first official look at the work of our 30 technicians who equipped more than 50 stands with plasma DVD-player sets, sound systems, cables etc. in one setup day only.
GATE is experienced in trade shows, thus we have already begun to work synchronously on the logistics for the forthcoming Bautec and the International Travel Trade Show (ITB).

The Green Week is a crowd puller every year again
We are very happy that we have also been awarded the contract - for the fourth time in a row - for equipping the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Production's special exhibition hall 23a with sound, light, video and IT technology. Federal Minister Horst Seehofer has visited the impressive exhibition hall of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Production (BMELV) during the opening of the International Green Week 2008. As exclusive partner of the Messe Berlin exhibition grounds, the Green Week is for us the starting event for the large trade shows in Berlin.
Charity Day of the Berlin City Mission in the central station
For the final event of the 130th anniversary of the Berlin City Mission, we were asked to arrange the lighting equipment and the microphone system for the performance of the Gospel choir. The voices of the 60-strong choir and the sound of the orchestra came to their full effect, because we had included the intense background noise and the large audience under the glass roof of the central station into our technical concept.
Siemens Business Conference 2007
On behalf of jem Jakobs Event Management and for the fourth time in a row, we have equipped the conference of the most important Siemens executives worldwide with the complex infeed and camera directing system.
In parallel to the main conference, we have also equipped and overseen a multitude of Site-Events, like 9 workshops for instance, with conference equipment.
Everything is set up - the IFA can begin!
Did you know that…
about 1.500 km cables are laid during the IFA?
the equipment suspended from the ceiling (light, sound, video screens…) weighs about 60 tons?
GATE is in charge of the technical aspects of the trade visitors center during the entire exhibition?
more than 1,100 exhibitors from 32 countries present the latest in consumer electronics?
Ask us - because we are there!
